The pink elephants network helped me validate and work through my feelings of grief and loss when we experienced pregnancy loss in the not so distant past.
Their social media presence, suggestions on coping mechanisms and advocacy for women in similar positions provided respite like nothing else did.
Every couple deserves to be validated, their grief and struggle to be heard. Every woman deserves a circle of support, access to bereavement leave, acknowledgement of the trauma that is pregnancy loss, miscarriage or stillbirth. She needs time to physically and emotionally heal. She is not consoled when she is told to ‘keep moving forward’ and ‘keep her chin up’ or just ‘try again because you’re still young’.
The pregnancy loss conversation is real, the emotion is raw and the pain of it has for too long been swept behind closed doors. It has prevented couples to acknowledge and learn to grow though their grief and truly move on to a point of acceptance.
We feel lucky. We are blessed and are expecting a new beginning very soon. Nothing compares to the excitement and relief we feel as we get closer to holding our little one in our arms.
There are many wonderful ways of acknowledging new beginnings. We ask you to gift a donation to this crucial organisation so that the path of pregnancy loss that we walked on will, one day soon, cease to be such an isolating or shameful experience.
